We are tanned, and rested, back from a fabulous journey.
The spics are from Thailand. It was humid and probably 90 degrees. We were hosted by the gentleman in the middle, Rob Ottenhoff. He’s an Indonesian, English speaking Dutch missionary to the Malay in Thailand (Culturally rounded). He recruited the missions team we worked with over the week. This photo is us on a Hilltop near his home.
We stayed in A Southern Baptist Missions center. 4 stories with dormitory style sleeping quarters. They had air conditioning which was a very pleasant surprise to Galen and I. The locals said it was mild for this time of year, but we were very sweaty.
We were in a similar room to this one for our workshops. Galen presented for two time slots totaling 6 hours a day for four days. I was his not so lovely assistant. We presented many principles for church formation and multiplication through mentoring. We used many skits to convey the points. Galen has become creative over the years and is able to generate a skit to present a new principle almost on the fly. I was challenged in my role as supporting actor. The goofier we were and the more animated, the more powerful and memorable the presentation was. They responded very well with laughs and cat calls and “ah has”. I am increasingly convinced that this approach is vastly superior as a form of teaching; specially if you can get the students involved. We taught principles of contextualization, essential church elements, effective multiplication through mentoring, survival, and missions right from the bible. Every lesson began with the bible verse from where the principle was derived.
